What recent statistics say about age and divorce

Most people who enter into marriage in Denver imagine that their union will last forever. Unfortunately, for many people, reality eventually sets in and they realize that this simply is not always true. A divorce can send a person’s life into upheaval and have them questioning how their circumstances compare to other people’s marriages and divorces. Some new statistics are out concerning at what age people are most likely to divorce.

The old saying is that half of all marriages will end in divorce. According to MSN, that number is now closer to 42 percent. In general, people are getting married later and marriages are lasting longer. The chances of a marriage falling apart also dramatically decrease once a couple hits the 20-year mark.

The age of 45 also seems to hold some significance. For people who are past their 45th birthday, they are more likely to be divorced if they are a man. For people who have not yet turned 45, they are more likely to be divorced if they are a woman. For heterosexual couples, people are most likely to have their marriages end when they are between the ages of 45 and 49.

In addition, Business Insider reports that historically, younger people were more likely to have ended a marriage and moved on to a subsequent relationship. However, recent data suggests that those that fall into that category are more likely to be older nowadays. At age 59, 43 percent of people are still on their first marriage while 42 percent were separate, divorced or remarried.
