If there are any step-parents in the picture, their role will also need to be made clear.

It is also extremely important that both parents work to present a united front, both for the sake of the children and their teachers. In addition, If the child is involved in any extracurricular activities or sports programs, both parents should be on board and they may want to work out a schedule that is compatible with their time-sharing arrangement. Putting all of this into a written parenting plan will make it easier for everyone to adhere to the terms and to solve disputes should any arise.

Finally, there are things that the school can do to make things easier on families of divorce, according to the Washington Post, since many school policies were designed with two-parent families in mind. Making sure that all parents are in the loop and receive copies of important notices and documents can go a long way toward ensuring that everyone remains on the same page. In addition, being flexible with scheduling can make it easier for divorced parents to both be involved in conferences and other school events.
