Is there any correlation between divorce and weight loss?

Yes, it appears there may be some connection between the two. Many people, including celebrities, are talking about how the “divorce diet” led them to drop some pounds in the aftermath of their split.

According to TODAY, the top three most stressful life events are the death of a spouse, getting divorced and separating from your partner. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that many people lose their appetites when they are overwhelmed by the worry and stress that accompanies a split. Going through a divorce can put both your psychological health and your emotional health into turmoil. For many people, the stress of the divorce simply causes them to lose interest in eating as they have so many other issues weighing on their minds.

If you could stand to lose a few pounds, losing a few pounds after a divorce is not a bad thing if you go about it the right way. It may be helpful to view the situation as a fresh start and treating your mind and body better can be a healthy way to go about starting over. In addition, many people are interested in returning to the dating scene post-divorce and may try to intentionally to lose weight to look their best and feel good about themselves.

If you find yourself succumbing to the divorce diet and are losing weight unintentionally, you may want to keep a few things in mind. First, once things settle down and you return to your normal level of stress and your normal eating and sleeping habits, any weight you lost will most likely come back. Second, if you feel like you are struggling, do not be afraid to ask for assistance from friends or family.
